5. The Dave Matthews Band
At number 5, The Dave Matthews Band are just one of the bands featured in Lighten Up, a newly launched original web series from Adrien Grenier's SHFT.com that follows bands as they reduce their carbon footprint on tour.
The Dave Matthews Band are no strangers to sustainability—these early adopters of bio-diesel powered buses and generators are known to offer fans online carpool service to their gigs.

4. Pearl Jam
In at number 4, the grunge rockers from Seattle Pearl Jam are certainly generous with their green—donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to organizations devoted to climate change.
Eddie Vedder has been outspoken about his passion for the environment, backing Ralph Nader in the 2000 election. Now the band are protecting Madagascar's and Ecuador's rain forests by offsetting carbon emissions from touring.
3. The Roots
Grammy award-winning hip hop artists, The Roots, are as down with Mother Earth as their name might suggest. They are at number 3 in our Top 5 Green Bands.
The band are part of the Green Music Group who, along with high profile bands like Guster and Maroon 5, are doing their part to help the planet. The animal lovers also support PETA's Stop The Violence Campaign.
2. Green Day
Cali pop-punk rockers Green Day are no American Idiots when it comes to the environment, teaming up with eco heavy hitters, the NRDC.
While the pairing may seem bizarre the results are effective; the band encourages fans to lobby Congress for more green jobs and to let Obama know that they support clean energy.
1. Radiohead
Number one in our Top 5 Green Bands is Radiohead who dissed the record industry and high fived the environment with their digital release of their critically and commercially acclaimed album, In Rainbows.
As front-man of a globe trotting rock band, Thom Yorke self deprecatingly calls himself "an environmental hypocrite," but was compelled to crash the Copenhagen Climate talks last year by posing as a journalist.
