Michael Jackson, The King of Pop, won't be there, sadly. A growing list of stars, however, will join in for a remake of "We Are The World," the 1985 single recorded by Quincy Jones that provided famine relief for the people of Africa. This time, the cause is relief for the people of Haiti, a poor country that's been devastated by a Jan. 12 earthquake and several aftershocks.
It's hard to believe, but it's been 25 years since the first "We Are The World." According to Entertainment Weekly, Quincy Jones will be back in the driver's seat for the sequel, to be recorded on Feb. 1, the day after The Grammys, in the same California studio where the first single was cut.
You have to admit, it will be pretty exciting to see how this comes out. "We Are The World" is the kind of song that everyone's heard (or should hear). Get a group of people together and play it, and watch the imitations of Bruce Springsteen and Cyndi Lauper materialize.
"When you're down and out there seems no hope at all
But if you just believe there's no way we can fall
Well, well, well, let us realize that a change can only come
When we stand together as one ..."
This outing will be a remake of the original song, with different voices. Those said to be joining in include Usher, Natalie Cole, John Legend, Miley Cyrus, Will Smith, Justin Bieber, Sugarland, Jason Mraz, Jennifer Hudson, Sting, Fergie and Haiti native Wyclef Jean, according to Star Magazine.
Lionel Richie, who wrote the original song with M.J., also will reportedly be involved.
Can't wait for the video.
