Don't worry. Not the real land and sea and sky. Although the land and sea part would probably be on sale with all the recent damage from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. That's why Sophie B. Hawkins, known universally for "Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover," wants fans of her music and the environment to spread some love to the Gulf coast.
How? The singer-songwriter (Damn!) is donating 100% of the net proceeds from downloads of her new single, “The Land, the Sea and the Sky” to Waterkeepers working in the Gulf.
The Waterkeeper Alliance is an organization of on-the-water advocates who patrol and protect more than 100,000 miles of rivers, streams and coastlines in North and South America, Europe, Australia, Asia and Africa. They have their work cut out for them with the BP disaster. The song is the first single from a new disc due this fall, called "Dream Street & Chance," Sophie's first new album in several years.
The song is a buck and a half at sophiebhawkins.com and also available on iTunes. It's about the human need to connect with nature, and goes right in line with what we're feeling these days, with the largest oil spill in U.S. history STILL going on.
Money from the song will directly support Waterkeepers on the front lines in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, and Texas, for equipment and supplies needed to protect and advocate for waterways, coasts and communities, says Waterkeeper Deputy Director Marc Yaggi.
