People are always coming up with new ways to raise money for charity, but this one may take the cake. Or the razor, or barf bag. It's called "My Dunk Tank," and it's like "Truth or Dare" meets "Fear Factor" and a trip to the carnival.
Essentially, you start an online fundraising campaign, then ask supporters to create dares for you and vote with their donations. MyDunkTank currently has dares featuring Tony Bacigalupo, a musician who's raising money for New Work City, billed as the "awesomest coworking space New York has ever seen."
According to Mashable, "You go to the MyDunkTank website and name the charity you want to raise money for and how much you want to raise, then make a short list of dares that you’re willing to do. Tell your friends, family and colleagues about it, and they’ll each vote with donations on which dare they’d like to see you do."
Recent dares include a guy named Nicolas Warren who promises to "juggle flaming nunchucks at a Boston startup event to the tune of the song 'Philly State of Mind'" for the National MS Society.
MyDunkTank was launched in June by Philadelphia entrepreneurs Blake Jennelle and Chap Ambrose. The site charges a 9 percent fee for the service, which goes to cover website costs and plans for a future expansion.
