Well, not necessarily a mile. That's just an old saying. But how do we feel about this one? Russell Simmons, the rap mogul, says he only wears his shoes a few times, which is kind of wasteful. But then he donates those (celebrity) worn shoes to charity, which is helpful.
Simmons helped out on America's Greenest Campus effort in October 2009, recording a Public Service Announcement and urging students to take small steps to cut their carbon footprint.
But what steps is Simmons taking these days? Not very many, at least in the same pair of shoes. But let's look into this a bit more.
Simmons says in a Pacific Coast News video that he only wears his shoes for a short time because he likes to keep them white. The gently worn shoes are donated to charity.
Apparently, a lot of celebrities do this, including Madonna.
Is celebrity foot sweat enough to make you buy a pair of used shoes? Only if it's for a good cause, like cancer research, or environmental protection? And what happens to the shoes?
Simmons doesn't seem to promote this shoe giving very much. There's not a mention of it on his Global Grind site (at least according to the search engine).
There is a post about shoe donation efforts by Reverend Run, Simmons' brother. Together, they launched Run Athletics, a shoe company, in 2003, that participates in Soles4Souls, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing essential footwear to those in need around the globe.
