Pitchfork Music Festival, the summer festival held in Chicago's Union Park, attracts some big names in the industry. This year's lineup includes Modest Mouse, Broken Social Scene, Pavement and more, but for 2010 the festival also has a few other names on the list: Bio-Diesel, Zipcar and Lower Footprint.

Pitchfork's big push to make this year's festival, being held July 16-18, green isn't new. Last year 46% of the waste generated at the event was recycled. The goal for this year is to get it up over 50%. But as we all know, music festivals are no haven for small environmental footprints. Fortunately, the people at Pitchfork take the environment seriously, and they're doing all they can to ensure that the festival's footprint is minimized as much as possible.

There will be some creative initiatives on tap, including all generators running on bio-diesel and hybrid Zipcars for festival transportation. To encourage festival goers to use two wheels instead of four, Pitchfork is investing in also investing in ample bike parking. So if you're planning on attending, think about getting yourself some wheels.

To reach their goal of 50% of festival waste diverted from landfills, Pitchfork is also implementing a comprehensive recycling program, developed in conjunction with graduate students from The Illinois Institute of Technology's Environmental Management Program. To encourage recycling, there will be a recycling store, where festival goers can swap out recyclable materials for festival goods like t-shirts, posters and beyond.
