READ MORE ABOUT:
The artists behind the Green Music Group have been challenging fans for months to take steps to make the world a better place, and win prizes to boot. But you may not have heard much about the winners (unless you were one of the lucky ones).
So here's a rundown of who's taken home prizes in the first seven GMG challenges, including their winning pictures. This is to inspire, and inform, since the deadline for the final challenge, from Maroon 5, to connect with a local nonprofit (and document it with a camera), is fast approaching.
That deadline is noon on Aug. 13. It's a deadline to meet, because even if you don't win the challenge prize of a Martin guitar, your name will be put into a big hat from which the grand prize, a Honda Insight hybrid, will be drawn. And even if you don't drive home the car, you've got to admit that anyone who's participated in these challenges has at least learned a thing or two about going green, being environmentally conscious and appreciating good music.
So let's review the past challenges, and see what it took to win: Creativity, "greeness" and the "they look like they're having fun" factor.
1. Perform a Community Service
Steven Varty won Challenge 1, from Dave Matthews Band, with the shot featured above.
2. Support Positive Environmental Legislation
Antonia Roman was victorious with Challenge 2, from Sheryl Crow, with this pic.
3. Donate Clothes
The Giving Tree Band banded together for Challenge 3, with Questlove from The Roots.
4. Travel Light
Charles Robinson (and a few friends) made the cut for Challenge 4, from Willie Nelson.

5. Eat Local
Rena Goodman's photo was good enough to win Challenge 5, from Guster.

6. Ditch the Disposables
Alicia Grimaldi stepped up for Challenge 6, from Bonnie Raitt.
7. Plant a Tree
Stephen Yeager was the lucky one in Challenge 7, from Linkin Park.

8 and 9???
The winner of Challenge 8 from Barenaked Ladies is still being tabulated, and Challenge 9 hasn't finished yet. The car is waiting.
