Bummed about Rothbury 2010? Want to go to where the sun (almost) always shines? Downtown Miami, Florida, of course, will host the Ultra Music Festival again this year, on March 26 and 27. The outdoor, electronic music fest has been going on since 1999 and attracted 85,000 party people last year.
The fest started out as an electronic dance exclusive event, but has become more inclusive in recent years, to include acts like The Cure, The Killers and The Prodigy.
There's so much new music these days that has electronic elements, it makes sense to us. This year's Phase 1 line-up includes Tiësto, Deadmau5, Groove Armada, Passion Pit, Carl Cox, Eric Prydz, The Crystal Method, Will.i.am and The Disco Biscuits.
The fest, which inherently thrives on electricity, has been doing its part to cut the impact. An Eco Village component was launched in 2004. More than 20 charities and nonprofits set up displays in the village, and bring awareness to important causes.
Organizers say tremendous plans are in motion for the 12th annual fest in 2010. Watch the 2010 promotional video and prepare to be dazzled
The Ultra Festival also is held in other places, including Brazil (Brasil), Ibiza, New York City and Puerto Rico. The "tremendous plans" include new countries and cities to be announced soon, along with more of the Miami line-up, organizers say.
