So the big news is the 2010 Lollapalooza lineup, featuring Soundgarden, Green Day, Lady Gaga, Arcade Fire, The Strokes, and Phoenix in Chicago's Grant Park.
They'll be joined August 6-8 by Social Distortion, MGMT, Jimmy Cliff, Hot Chip and The Black Keys. Altogether, there are 130 bands on the bill, including The National, Spoon, Devo, Cypress Hill, Cut Copy, The New Pornographers, Erykah Badu, Slightly Stoopid, Grizzly Bear, Gogol Bordello, Chromeo, Wolfmother, Yeasayer and X Japan.
Tickets for the three-day fest will set you back $215. This show is so big that early bird tickets went on sale in August, before the acts were even announced.
If you've been reading Planet Green Instrumental for any time, you know that Green Day and Lady Gaga have some green and socially conscious bones in their bodies. And more and more festivals are trying to tread lightly when staging monster music events, with everything from recycling to educational eco-villages.
Along those lines, Lollapalooza will sport a Green Street, "where earth-friendly, sustainable and fair trade = functional, fashionable and hip."
Other features include $5 tags to help festival-goers offset their carbon emissions, and Schlumpy, a gigantic rolling ball of plastic bags that's meant to lure people to pledge to dump the plastic ... and get funny Facebook photos.
