You know it's going to be a good night when the likes of Lady Gaga and Elton John come together. The two are teaming up with Sting, Shirley Bassey and Trudie Styler at this year's Rainforest Foundation Fund benefit concert on May 13, 2010, which is celebrating the fund's 21st birthday.
Sting, Elton and Gaga are all slated to play together, which is sure to make for "one heck of a night," as Styler called it. Rocking out at Carnegie Hall, there's also a sweet after party, being hosted at the Plaza Hotel's Grand Ballroom.
But an evening like this doesn't come a small price; "concert only" tickets are $600 and regular individual tickets, which include concert and post-gala supper, are going for $2,500 a pop. Fortunately the money is going to fund projects that benefit indigenous peoples and tribal populations of the world's rainforests, as they fight to defend their own rights and conserve their precious and diverse environment.
Founded in 1989 by Sting and Styler, under the name Rainforest Foundation International, the Rainforest Foundation Fund aims to promote worldwide awareness of the need to conserve tropical forests, and it pulls in the majority of its financial support from these benefit concerts. In total, the benefit concerts are responsible for raising over $30 million for the fund.
The stars of the night aren't new to philanthropy. Gaga recently donated all of the proceeds from her Monster Ball show in New York to Haiti relief efforts and Elton is widely known for his philanthropic efforts, including his own Elton John AIDS Foundation.
