READ MORE ABOUT:
You'll probably hear a lot about Joan Jett in coming months. A biopic on her first band, The Runaways, is due for release on March 19. The all-girl Runaways helped launch Jett's career in the 1970s with songs like "Cherry Bomb." She went on to record a cover of "I Love Rock 'N' Roll" in the 1980s. These days, Jett is still rocking, and doing what she can to support animals and groups that work to protect them, like PETA.
Will "The Runaways" be big?
Regardless of its similarities to acclaimed biopics like "Walk the Line," this biopic is fronted by mega stars Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning, from the Twilight movie saga—and they're singing the songs themselves.
Jett, also a passionate vegetarian, helped raise money for the Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary earlier this month by appearing at a Celebrity Dog Wash in Florida, Ecorazzi reports. The sanctuary accepts pit bulls, unlike many shelters.
Here's a little vid she did for PETA:

Jett is listed as executive producer on the film. Maybe the movie will include a few animal references here and there? Either way, more of her message is bound to get out.
Like from this PETA interview:
You have a reputation for being pretty tough and kick ass. What do you think when people say that being a vegetarian or vegan is a sign of weakness?
I think it's the opposite. People who say things like that are the weak ones for eating animals when it is completely unnecessary to do so in order to sustain life. To give into the urge to eat flesh just because you can--now that's weak! It's like eating your dog or cat. It may take something like bird flu or mad cow disease to convince people to stop killing animals for food.
