Start the countdown to good vibes: surfer/activist artist Jack Johnson's new album, To The Sea, will be released on June 1, 2010, and along with the new album, this year might be Johnson's greenest yet.
Recorded at two solar-powered studios, the Mango Tree in Hawaii and the Solar Powered Plastic Plant in Los Angeles, To The Sea holds true to Johnson's eco-roots, and the album's world tour will do the same.
Following the success of the green initiatives during his 2008 world tour, the 2010 To The Sea tour, will continue implementing a variety of green touring practices and community engagement. Tour vehicles are to be fueled with bio-diesel and 150 different community groups have been selected for Johnson's All At Once Community, which will focus on supporting non-profit groups and engaging fans in the realms of plastic waste reduction and sustainable local food systems.
Even more impressive is that Johnson will be donating 100% of his tour profits to charity, proof that music can really make a difference. Thanks to this same initiative, in 2008 over $900,000 was donated.
A member of 1 Percent for the Planet and the spearhead of the uber green Kokua Festival, Johnson is well respected in the music community, and beyond, for his impressive eco efforts. The new album and world tour should be just another example of his good work.
Can't wait for the album release? The album's first single, "You And Your Heart" will be available on iTunes on April 6th.
