The Honda Civic Tour may be rolling to a community near you this summer, with dates from July through September throughout the United States, and a bill featuring Paramore the band, Reverb the concert-greening nonprofit, car giveaways and environmental efforts. The Honda folks say the 10th annual 2010 trek is about promoting environmental change (and better mileage cars). A portion of concert proceeds will go toward cutting the footprint of the tour, which will include interactive enviro exhibits.

Hayley Williams, the torch-haired singer from Paramore, promises the Honda Civic Tour will be good fun and good for the planet.

Ride sharing is already being organized via Reverb. So many car references ... Don't be afraid to ride your bike or take public transit if you can.

Other greening efforts that those tickets will help fund include:

  • Extensive waste reduction and recycling backstage and on buses;

  • Non-toxic cleaners and post-consumer recycled bathroom tissue on tour buses;

  • Reusable water bottles for the band and crew;

  • Backstage water stations to fill reusable water bottles;

  • Biodegradable and compostable catering products, including potato- and corn-based utensils and sugarcane bowls and cups;

  • Carbon offsets to neutralize all carbon dioxide emissions from touring fleet, air travel, hotel accommodations, and venue energy use.

There also will be a "Honda Hybrid Zone" with information about opportunities for greening your own life. Organizers probably wouldn't mind if you took a look at the all-new Honda CR-Z Sport Hybrid Coupe, either, which will be displayed at several tour stops.

Sure, this is marketing, but marketing that's also making a difference when it comes to lightening the load of touring, and adding education and avenues for action to the concert experience. The Honda Civic Hybrid is the most-efficient compact car on the road for 2010, according to fueleconomy.gov.

The tour beings July 23 in Raleigh, North Carolina, and wraps up Sept. 19 in Anaheim, California. Support artists include pop-rock band Tegan and Sara, with more acts to be announced in coming weeks.
