READ MORE ABOUT:
Welcome to the inaugural week of the Green Music Group Challenge. The Green Music Group is a coalition of artists, industry leaders and environmental nonprofits who banded together in January to push for environmental change. The Challenge part is where you come in. Over the next 18 weeks, artists from the Green Music Group will be asking Planet Green readers who join them in doing something good for the Earth. The aim is to drive positive action in communities. And the person with the best project will drive away with the grand prize, a new Honda Insight Hybrid. Other non-motorized vehicles and goodies also will be given out after each contest, including a Specialized Mountain Bike and Rossignol Stefan Lessard Signature Snowboard. Round One begins with the Dave Matthews Band, which includes bassist Stefan Lessard.
For More On the Green Music Challenge
As you'll see, Fonzy is challenging people to perform a community service over the next two weeks (April 10-23). Lessard just finished helping with a beach cleanup for the Surfrider Foundation. His challenge for Round One: Volunteer for a service project in your community that helps beautify and clean up your local environment.
To play, you need to take the action suggested, and capture it in a picture that includes the logo of the organization for which you're volunteering. Create a profile on the GMG page, follow the instructions, upload your photo and cross your fingers.
One winning entry will be chosen for each contest based on creativity, "greenness," the number of people involved, and how much fun they're having.
So smile. And it wouldn't hurt to keep up the good work even after each contest is over.
Each challenge winner will qualify for the grand prize, a 2010 Honda Insight Hybrid.
To get those positive juices flowing, the other challenge prizes include: a Bonnaroo Download and Patagonia Apparel Pack, a DJ Hero Game and Best Buy Gift Card, a $500 Gift Certificate for Hard Rock, and Live Nation season passes for Comcast (Boston, Massachusetts) or Shoreline (San Franscisco, California). There's more too, but you'll have to come back later this month to find out.
