Legendary drummer and co-founder of the Grateful Dead, Bill Kreutzmann, together with funky bluesman and voodoo electronic pioneer, Papa Mali—and the rest of their new band, 7 Walkers—will be in the studio and on the road this year...proving that green and socially conscious artists from way back when are still kickin' it in the 2k10.
The Living Dead
In 2009, the post-Jerry Grateful Dead keep their touring roots alive while raising more than $400,000 for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. And let's not the Dead-founded Rex Foundation, with a mission that states:
"The Rex Foundation aims to help secure a healthy environment, promote individuality in the arts, provide support to critical and necessary social services, assist others less fortunate than ourselves, protect the rights of indigenous people and ensure their cultural survival, build a stronger community, and educate children and adults everywhere."
Kinda has a "ripple" effect, dontcha think?
Papa Don't Preach
Born Malcolm Welbourne in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Papa Mali is a singer/songwriter, a guitarist and producer who grew up on the banks of Bayou Pierre in Shreveport, Louisiana and spent a great part of his youth in New Orleans where he began his long and winding musical career.
Papa Mali was recently featured in the full-length documentary, New Orleans Music in Exile, about the post-Katrina music community in the Big Easy.
