Bonnaroo & Music for Action
READ MORE ABOUT:
It's the kind of carrot only a famous music festival could dangle: free music, in exchange for your political efforts.
Music for Action is a newly-launched project, brought to us by the folks at HeadCount and the NRDC Action Fund. The deal is this: For the first time ever, a climate change-related bill has been approved by the U.S. House of Representatives. It's now up to the U.S. Senate to vote on similar legislation, and if the delightful health care debate is any indication, the Senate is an extremely tough nut to crack when it comes to progressive reform.
That's why Music for Action is enlisting the help of rock stars.
Wilco, Pearl Jam, The Decemberists, Ani DiFranco and My Morning Jacket are just a few of the bands whose once-in-a-lifetime performances at Bonnaroo await your ears (full playlist here). To get it, simply submit a pre-form email to your senator - or even the President! - and personalize it however you like. While you're at it, you can also write your local paper.
Want another reason to feel super awesome about writing your senator? Once you download "Best of Bonnaroo," you, my friend, will be able to listen to recordings that have, for the most part, never before been released to the public. Each track was hand-picked by the artists themselves.
And if you STILL need some incentive to push your senators a little, the NRDC has helpfully put together a video full of very good-looking actors to encourage you. Have a look:
Finally, rock stars and pretty actors aside, it's worth knowing how very fragile this bill's chances of succeeding are. Last week, The Guardian reported on Democratic leaders launching a "last gasp effort...to try to resurrect a climate change bill before Congress, which is seen as vitally important in sealing a global deal to tackle global warming."
With your help however, this effort won't be a "last gasp" at all - rather, a breath of confidence. Write your senator. Hit send. Rock out.
