For a nice play on words, Adam Gardner is supporting gardening this week. Sort of. Gardner, frontman for the alt rock band Guster, is challenging fans to eat local food at least once a day for the next seven days. No, not from a local fast food joint. We're talking about locally grown food. It tastes better, and you'll be supporting local farmers and your local economy. Gardner and other members of his band will be doing it for the next week, too.If that's not enough inspiration, the top locavore will win a Live Nation Ultimate Access Pass.
It's for the Green Music Group's fifth challenge, and for the good of the Earth, too. Guster is a founding member of the GMG, which includes a bushel of green artists, venues, labels and others in the music community.
Local food is better because it doesn't have to be packaged and travel a long way, using fossil fuels, to get to your tummy. Read some food packaging and you'll get the picture. Speaking of pictures ...
Here's how it works: Do the deed. Snap of photo of one of your yummy meals. Put your arm around the chef or farmer, if you can. It could score you extra points, or maybe a second helping. Upload your photo to the GMG Challenge website and tag it "FIVE."
The Live Nation pass will get you into the Comcast Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts, or the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California. The passes are for two lawn "seats."
The deadline is noon Eastern on Friday, June 18. So get eatin'. You can use the Eat Well Guide to find locally produced and organic food in your community.
One more thing: Every entry to this challenge is an entry to win the grand prize ... a Honda Insight Hybrid.
