Proceeds from the Disco Biscuits' performance in Brooklyn on Sunday will help support their effort to install solar panels at an elementary school in their hometown of Philadelphia.
The benefit show—titled Bisco Power Mission—will support HeadCount, a civic engagement and voter registration organization, and Greening Greenfield, a nonprofit created by parents and school faculty to adopt sustainable practices at the school where the solar panels will be installed.
The sold-out show at the still sort of recently opened LEED-certified Brooklyn Bowl was expected to bring in more than $30,000, with some money also coming from beer sales—$1 from each Magic Hat sold was to be donated to the mission, although you had to get that from a special tap off to the side of the venue. The main bar was selling mostly Brooklyn and Sixpoint beer (which are both delicious and both local).
Lead guitarist Jon Gutwillig had to sit out because he had injured his wrist a few days earlier, but everyone seemed happy at the show, including the volunteers for HeadCount, who were trying to educate the audience about voter responsibility. Hope they made some headway!
