Planet Green and hessnatur, the leading global pioneer in organic apparel, are thrilled to announce the winner of The Eco-Tee Design Challenge: Lindsay Seligman for her One Life creation.

The challenge, which drew thought-provoking artistry from all corners of the United States, was designed to highlight the importance of organic apparel. From the dramatic and abstract to the cartoonish and ethereal, all of the designs conveyed the message of how the small act of changing a tee can change the world.

The volume and quality of entries made the decision extremely challenging, but ultimately, Seligman won for her beautiful graphic, which depicts a bird taking flight from a slogan that reads "One Life." The design combines simplicity with creativity and meaning, and perfectly expresses the mission of the contest. In Seligman's words, "One Life, I hope it says it all."

Who decided on the winner?

The public whittled down fifty of the top designs to five finalists, who were chosen for their creativity, originality, and use of contest theme. A distinguished panel of eco-conscious and fashion-savvy judges gathered to undertake the difficult task of choosing one winner. The panel included Blake Mycoskie, Chief Shoe Giver and Founder of TOMS Shoes, Miranda Purves, Lifestyle Editor of ELLE, Summer Rayne Oakes, model and environmental activist, and Miguel Adrover, internationally renowned fashion designer and Creative Director of hessnatur.

"We are thrilled with the immense response to the contest and the truly outstanding level of artistry," states Wolf Luedge, CEO of hessnatur. "The Eco-Tee Design Challenge was created to inspire and educate consumers to see how a small, affordable adjustment, such as an organic tee, can have a tremendous effect on the environment. Much like swapping to an energy efficient light bulb, using a canvas tote, or recycling, the organic tee can empower people to make change."

How, when and where will the winning tee be produced?

The winning tee will be produced at Grameen Knitwear in Bangladesh, an affiliate of the Grameen Bank. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each shirt will be donated to the hessnatur Scholarship Program at the Grameen Shikkha Project for its continued work in eradicating poverty through education.

Ken Rother, VP of Planet Green & TreeHugger Interactive:

The design, which will be sold internationally and credited to the winner, will be environmentally and socially responsible in every step of creation—from farming through to sale—and demonstrates part of the hessnatur core mission to raise awareness of the immense positive impact choosing organic apparel can have on the world.

Luedge continues, "it is a little known fact that the growth and harvesting of conventional cotton causes some of the world's worst environmental pollution —it takes one third of a pound of pesticides and fertilizers to create just one of the 2.4 billion tees produced globally every year. If we can highlight this in an engaging way, we are one step closer to making a healthier world."
