From the Heartland to the Coast, items we use every day are causing big problems for our oceans, lakes, streams and fresh water supplies. Now, as part of its Blue August initiative, Planet Green invites people to become part of the solution with the launch of the Ban the Bags, Butts and Bottles Challenge!
We're encouraging people to stop litter before it pollutes the beaches, rivers, lakes and streams we know and love.
Starting now you can join the action and make a difference. Submit photos of "Beach Don'ts" that capture litter offenders in action; or you can submit images of your "Blue August" moments capturing favorite beach or waterfront events and places.
The submissions from Planet Green readers will be uploaded throughout the month, and many entries will be selected for slideshows of our audience's most compelling imagery. You can also enter our sweepstakes for a chance to win a solar panel backpack made from recycled soda bottles. It collects energy throughout the day and can power a laptop or other electronic gadgets.
On August 8th and 9th, special Challenge Teams will visit locations across the country, handing out reusable eco-totes and information for people who want to become part of the answer to saving our waterways, oceans and clean water resources.
