Swirling in the Pacific Ocean is a mass of trash the size of Texas. The Pacific Trash Gyre is a collection of debris, mostly cigarette butts, plastic trash bags and plastic bottles, that have found their way into the ocean currents from the mainland. And it's not just coastal communities that are responsible: Thanks to rivers and other water systems litter finds its way into the Pacific from the Heartland as well.

Now, Planet Green has decided to take action to curb this plastic tide and we are asking you for help.

Right now, you can take part in the Ban the Bags, Butts and Bottles Challenge! by joining the "Litter Patrol." Submit photos of "Beach Don'ts" that capture litter offenders in action.

Submit Your Photos Here!

The submissions from Planet Green readers will be uploaded throughout the month, and many entries will be selected as feature picks of the week. You can also enter our sweepstakes for a chance to win a solar panel backpack made from recycled soda bottles. It collects energy throughout the day and can power a laptop or other electronic gadgets.
