Foreheads are known for sweating. Dirt and grease rapidly accumulate in the band. It's easy to get ketchup or mustard on the cap at a ball game or while at a ketchup and mustard factory. How can you clean your cap without destroying its shape? The answer: In the dishwasher with a load of dishes.
How is This Green?
Dishwashers use most of their energy heating the water. The fuller the dishwasher the more energy the load saves overall. Washing your hat in the dishwasher will add to that efficiency. It will also preserve the shape of your hat, extending its life and keeping it out of the landfill.
How to Wash Your Hat In The Dishwasher

In the dishwasher —no kidding! And wash several at the same time to save water and energy. Put any dirty cotton or washable wool cap on the top rack, secure it by using several plastic clothespins, add the normal amount of dishwasher detergent, and run through a regular wash and rinse cycle. Remove the cap before the drying cycle and place over a large coffee can so it keeps its shape while air-drying.
You can also use a baseball cap form (available at sporting-goods stores) for washing and drying, either in the dishwasher or the washing machine.
Those Who Say Nay!
I found a two articles out there from people who say that this a bad idea. Here are the arguments against washing baseball caps in the dishwasher.

This is not recommended. Dishwashers are for dishes, clothes washers are for clothes. When was the last time you ate a meal out of one of your baseball hats?

There a suggestions to wash your cap in the dish washer. IMHO, these ideas are all whack.
