It's fully winter weather now, and despite how hard your mittens try to keep your hands warm, sometimes they need a little help. You can quickly, easily, and greenly make reusable mitten warmers that will keep your hands extra toasty for 30 minutes or longer, all with a handful of rice and some scrap materials from around the house.

The materials are things you probably already have around the house—uncooked rice or lentils, a needle and some thread (or even rubber bands!) and some scrap fabric like an old dish towel, mate-less sock, or out-of-fashion shirt. These items will create microwavable rice pouches that radiate heat for about a half an hour. You'll be able to use them over and over.

Instructables features a step-by-step instruction guide and you'll quickly see how simple and fast these reusable hand warmers are to create.

They might even make a perfect holiday gift, along with a pair of handmade mittens!
