I'm not ashamed to admit that I am totally devoted to What Not to Wear, the TLC makeover show that turns the frumpily dressed into the fabulously frocked. And while most of the episodes involve sending overwhelmed shoppers out into department stores or high-end boutiques to search seas of racks, this weekend I caught a makeover I'd never seen before: that of Tara Pike-Nordstrom, who oversees the Rebel Recycling program in Las Vegas and chose her new wardrobe from a selection of vintage and eco-friendly stores in NYC.
One of the standout dresses she came away with was a cream-colored satin sheath made from a deconstructed men's suit; while I haven't been able to track down the designer or buying info for that outfit, I did find this Threadbanger tutorial on turning a pair of men's trousers into a strapless dress. It's simpler than you think-making the pattern seems to be the trickiest part, and if you're good with a tape measure then even that will be stress-free. You can use the same pattern to make a similar dress in any length and from any kind of material-as for me, I'm still on the lookout for the original. Any ideas?
