Concerts are kind of my thing. I'm a musician, most of my friends are musicians, I live in NYC, and there's always something exciting going on. I love the energy of live concerts. There's something really intimate to me about being in a room with live music and I predict that concerts will always be a part of my life.
This means that those annoying wristbands so often wrapped around my arm upon entering a venue will always be a part of my life, too.
Not only are these unnecessary (why can't we all just use soy or vegetable based stamps, people?), they're wasteful. Nonetheless, until all of the concert venues out there get the picture, we're all going to have to deal with these bracelets as long as we want to enjoy live music.
My advice? Don't throw your concert bracelets away. There are some pretty nifty craft projects that can come out of these pesky things.
- Frame them.
For a long time, I was saving the wristbands I got from CBGB. They all had CBGB on them and I thought that was kind of cool. Luckily for me, I still had all of the bracelets by the time that my beloved, once-favorite NYC club closed down. Immediately, I lined them up together and framed them and my CBGB bracelet picture is one of my most prized possessions these days. If the cool clubs you got to have a personal bracelet...keep them! You'll want to have a way to compile the memories later. - Turn them into bows.
Cut your bands into 3-5 inch pieces. Tape them on top of each other, leaving some flat and curling others. This makes for a really original bow for a present and it's fun to do, too! - Use them for hanging Christmas ornaments.
These bracelets are actually perfect for hanging ornaments on Christmas trees. Pick out any sort of homemade decoration to make (from an old cd to an empty pudding cup) and hang your homemade ornament with your wristband.
The moral of the story? There are secondary uses for most things out there. Concert wristbands are no exception. Be creative and have fun!
