Drawstrings are a vital part of our casual wear. Can you imagine a world in which your hoodie has no mechanism to draw the hood tight during the cold. And what of sweat pants? How could they remain the casual rage without the string that binds them to your waist.
A lost drawstring is no reason to throw out a perfectly good garment, especially when replacing one is such a cinch. It's also greener to repair than replace, so you win on all sorts of fronts. Here is how a drawstring is repaired.
- First, remove the broken cord from the drawstring hole.
- Next, head on down to the old fabric store. Find a replacement drawstring. You'll want one that has about a foot and a half of excess.
- Turn one end of the drawstring into an anchor by putting a knot into it.
- Attach a small safety pin to the non-knotted side. The pin should be just small enough to fit into the drawstring channel.
- Push the safety pin through the channel. Scrunch the material. Pull the pin forward. Repeat.
- Pull the pin out of the hole. Knot the end. You are done.
