Make a Dress from Recycled Fabric

I've never been especially handy with a needle and thread, but having a basic grasp of sewing lets you replace buttons, sew seams, and lengthen hems instead of trashing old clothes and buying new. And if you're gung-ho enough about greening your closet to attempt to make your own clothes, this easy shirred-dress tutorial from Threadbanger.com can help.

How to Make a Shirred Summer Shirtdress:
Use organic cotton or other eco-friendly fabrics for an even more environmentally sound garment—or, take a cue from the video, and find a secondhand duvet cover or sturdy sheet at a thrift store. As long as it's big enough to wrap around you, it's enough fabric for a dress.
