Turn a Used Makeup Compact into a Perfume Carrier

With his usual knack for creative recycling, Danny Seo, author of Simply Green Parties (2006, Collins), demonstrates how a used makeup compact can be turned into a solid perfume carrying case, whether it's as a last-minute gift, or for you to toss into your purse before you head out the door. You can even make several of these as favors for a bachelorette party or shower, he says.

Solid Perfume Carrying Cases
Used makeup compacts, thoroughly cleaned
1/4 cup of solid beeswax
3 tbs jojoba oil
Approximately 60 drops of essential oil
Pyrex measuring cup

Begin by melting the beeswax in a Pyrex measuring cup in the microwave. Add the jojoba oil (which will prevent the perfume from going rancid) and the essential oil. Stir the mixture and pour into the compacts; allow to cool completely. To use, simply dab your fingers over the wax and apply.

Tip: This can be a fun DIY project at a party, too. Have a number of essential oils on hand-rose, lavender, chamomile-and let guests customize their own solid perfume scents.
