How dirty do we get while we sleep? We can't get that dirty. I mean, we're just lying there, prone and unawares. For some reason, we all seem to gravitate to the bathroom first thing in the morning, for more than just the obvious reason.

Our morning ritual is short and sweet, and we probably don't think about it very often. Every day we head in, shower and shave and leave to do the important things of our day. By making a few slight changes, we can save a bit of money, water and resources.

How to Save During Our Morning Rituals

  1. When Nature Calls
First thing is first in the morning. Putting a bottle full of gravel in the toilet tank can save a few gallons of water a day. It will also save you money.

  2. Toothpaste
Does your morning breath smell like a snake-filled crypt? After you use the toilet, you probably tackle that terrible taste in your mouth. You only need a pea-sized droplet of toothpaste. Those TV commercials always show a wavy line of paste intercurled upon itself. You don't need that much. They do that on TV so you'll use more toothpaste and buy more toothpaste.

  3. Brushing Your Teeth
Turn the water off when you are not rinsing your brush.

  4. Shaving
Turn the water off when you are not rinsing your razor.

  5. Razor Blades
Using a straight or electric razor saves on waste, but it also saves money in the long run.

  6. Shaving Cream
Avoid traditional shaving creams. Instead, employ another household lubricant like olive oil to aid you in your task.

  7. Showers
Take shorter showers. Try to limit yourself to only five minutes or three if you want to be serious about things. You can also skip a few showers a week with no detriment to your health.
