I work out often. While this is a great thing for my body, it also builds muscles in places that the rail-thin fashion industry doesn't seem to know exist. For instance, my calves are built up with muscles. This never bothers me other than when I'm trying to purchase a pair of tall boots. More often than not, the boots I love and try on are just too tight around my calves for me to buy them.
After meeting a crafty girl at a Patagonia event recently, I have a new idea for you and your boots based off of the shoes she was wearing the night that I met her.
If your boots aren't fitting as loosely around your calves as you wish they were, don't throw them out, try fixing them up a bit.
Cut out an inverted triangle section of the back of your boot, where your calves rest. Pick a nice and thick fabric. I think that fabric from a quilt works wonderfully, for example. Cut out a section of the fabric so that it's just a bit larger than the incision you've made into the boots. With a thick needle, sew the fabric to the inside of your boots either by hand or with a tough machine.
This trick will make your once-snug boots fit perfectly and they'll be stylish, too!
