Keeping your mouth clean can be quite a chore, because it is necessary to your survival that you dirty it again. Toothpaste is one of many aids that can help you in the Herculean task of mouth cleansing.

As a greenie, you may like to make things yourself. You might make your own clothes, your own jewelry or your own cleaning supplies. Toothpaste is something that you can make yourself out of easy-to-find materials.

Toothpaste serves two main functions. It's abrasive so it helps you scrub those pearly whites, and toothpaste lubricates and refreshes, making the brushing process more pleasant. Some pastes have chemicals that whiten teeth and strengthen teeth and gums. If you're looking for those ingredients, you'll probably have to buy commercial pastes. But if you only need a basic paste, why not make your own?

More than one website references Stephanie Tourles book, Organic Body Care Recipes for this toothpaste recipe, so it is undoubtedly a good one.

Ingredients
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp finely ground sea salt
A drop of peppermint, spearmint, etc. (Pick what you would like your toothpaste to taste like and use that flavor.)
A splash of tap water

Mix all the ingredients until it forms a paste thick enough to put on your toothbrush.
