Planet Green and Hessnatur Launch Online Tee Shirt Design Contest

Yours truly and the sustainable, classic clothing line, Hessnatur, prove that one organic tee shirt can make a difference through one of summer’s coolest competitions.

As spring heats up and gives way to summer, we’ll all be replacing our bulky attire with cool and comfortable short-sleeve tees. And as any jeans-and-a-tee-shirt kinda guy or gal (like me) can attest—it’s a delightful transition to make.

Less delightful, however, is the frightening fact that the cultivation of conventional cotton leaves a much heavier toll on the environment than the weight of winter’s bulky wool sweaters—so much so that one third of a pound of pesticides and fertilizers go into creating just one measly, light-as-a-feather tee! When you consider that 2.4 billion tees are produced annually around the world, we’re talking a lot of toxic residue not only accumulating in our planet’s soil—but also on our skin. We often forget about this when the emphasis is usually on avoiding conventionally grown fruits and veggies and less on avoiding conventionally grown cotton in fashion.

But just as buying organic food is one of the greenest steps to take, so is buying organic duds and that’s exactly why Planet Green, and one of the most sustainably sincere fashion brands, Hessnatur, have teamed up. We want to show that buying one organic tee shirt really can make a difference and prove so in a fun, interactive way, of course—through a contest!

Later this summer, stateside greenies with an eye for design, have the opportunity to design an organic tee for Hessnatur. The winning creation—chosen by Planet Green readers—will go on sale internationally with 50 percent of the proceeds going towards the Grameen Foundation, the humanitarian, anti-poverty organization founded by Nobel Peace Prize recipient Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

If you haven’t yet won the Nobel Peace Prize, but the idea of changing the world makes your typical daydream complete—this could be the contest for you. Making this artsy, eco-statement might land you in the favor of Dr. Yunus himself, Hessnatur, and yours truly (wink, wink), and also put your design—and name—on the international map.

So break out the sketch pad, put on your creative cap and stay tuned for contest updates and alerts here on Planet Green—official online contest host and partner.
