Create a Go Green Plan: Follow Wa$ted!'s Salon Example

Going green at home can be tough but imagine the challenges a green-minded salon faces. Toxic hair-care products, all-day energy use, and literal mountains of old hair are just the beginning of the eco-crimes the average salon commits every day. Still, Annabelle and Holter were able to help a salon flip the green switch in the A Hairy Problem episode of Wa$ted!.


The Beauty Salon Go Green Plan:



1. Make Lighting Efficient and Effective



The salon updated it's inefficient lighting by installing Minardi Color perfect lighting system using LED and Halide light to create the right balance or light for the stylists. These lights are three times more powerful, but use only a fraction of the energy and heat as halogen and incandescent bulbs, which will drastically reduce their electricity bills.



2. Recycle Product Packaging


This new-ly green salon began seeking companies that reclaim product packaging in addition. Some companies also offer clients 10% more in product refills if they bring back their bottles.

Tip: Placing recycling bins within easy reach of customers and staff encourages use.


3. Reuse Hair Clippings


The salon enrolled with Matter of Trust, a a company that makes mats used to clean up oil spills from human hair, transforms waste into an eco-miracle.


4. Improve Efficiency of Appliances


Since the salon can't tell their customers to dry their hair naturally they installed energy-efficient hair dryers helps them cut costs and reduce electricity consumption.They also installed an updated commercial-grade, energy-efficient water heater save on energy and costs.
