If you have to try on 80 pairs of jeans to find the perfect fit like I do, then shopping for jeans online, well, to put it bluntly, it ain't gonna happen.

While studies have concluded pesticide residue isn’t an issue with textiles, the chemicals used in conventional cotton farming are major air and water polluters—which does affect your health.

It takes three-quarters of a pound of chemicals to make enough cotton for an average pair of jeans.

Detractors argue organic cotton jeans aren't eco-friendly because the dyes are hard on the earth, and thus organic cotton jeans aren't all that great for the planet. But many are using more eco-friendly dyes these days, and regardless, let's be honest, if you can help even a little bit, why not?

Not sure where to get eco-denim? NaturallySavvy brings you our top 6 picks (we just couldn't limit ourselves to 5) for greening your jeans.

  1. Loomstate
Loomstate organic clothing was founded on the principle of 'creating demand for certified organic cotton using socially and environmentally responsible methods of production.' Retailers.

  2. Nudie Jeans
Nudie strips jeans down to the basics by using only organic cotton and dying their clothing with pre-reduced indigo for low environmental impact. They also ensure all workers, from planters to dyers, are treated fairly and humanely—and no children under 15 are employed by the company. Retailers.

  3. Edun
Edun jeans offer a great eco-friendly product with fair trade benefits. Edun's production in India, Peru, Tunisia, Kenya, Uganda, Lesotho, Mauritius and Madagascar is based on the premise that sustainable communities are built through 'trade, not aid.' Word to the wise: not all of their products are organic, so be sure to look at the content. Retailers.

  4. 7 for All Mankind
If you want a pair of sexy, organic cotton jeans, you can do no better than 7 For All Mankind. 7 offers nine styles in California organic cotton from trendy skinny leg to classic boot cut. Retailers.

  5. Levi Strauss & Co.
Classic jeans producer Levi Strauss & Co. introduced their Levi eco line of jeans in 2006, and it's since expanded to include jackets and skirts. Made with 100% organic and recycled cotton, these are the jeans that will take you back to high school...Retailers.

  6. H&M
Sweedish fashion giant H&M has a line of organic cotton clothing, which includes jeans. For spring 2009, H&M will up their use of organic cotton by 50% (they used 1,500 tons last spring), and they're going to offer recycled clothing, including recycled cotton from fabric remnants from garment production.
