Gone are the days when "cheapskate" was an insult. In fact, this once derogatory term has morphed into frugalista, e.g. a "person who leads a frugal lifestyle, but stays fashionable and healthy by swapping clothes, buying second-hand, growing own produce, etc." Case in point: Miami Herald journalist Natalie McNeal. She's frugal and gets paid to write about it. (Nice work if you can get it.)

To find a frugalista, you might want to frequent thrift shops. "Truth be told," writes Faith Sugarman, "thrift stores are America's best kept shopping secret when it comes to finding fantastic bargains on both new and used clothing. With the right know-how, a little patience and just a touch of luck, you can acquire an amazing high fashion wardrobe on an incredibly tiny budget."

Here's where Natalie Cook from Planet Green chimes in: "Thrifters like me are getting good cheap stuff and being environmentalists all at once. Buying, selling and trading used items keeps great usable stuff out of landfills...So next time you grow out of or grow tired of a perfectly good sweater think of trading it in instead of trashing it. You won?t regret saving the money or the landfill space."

Suggestion: Naked Lady Party, "an amazing way of sprucing up your wardrobe without spending a cent or making a dent on the environment."
