Having a ton of bridesmaids in your wedding can be hugely wasteful. But sometimes you just can't discount your lifelong friends even if it means more dresses, shoes, and gifts. The following few simple green tips will allow you to honor your friends and family without dishonoring Mother Earth.

Tips for Greener Bridesmaids

  • Pick a color instead of a dress to cut your consumption. If you choose a relatively common color instead of the dress, your maids can often use a dress that they already own and if they have to buy a new one, they'll end up buying a dress that they can wear again. Once I was in a wedding where the bridesmaids all wore black dresses of their choosing and then pearls to match. It was so easy and it came together fantastically well.

  • Don't force your bridesmaids to buy a certain shoe. Pick a shoe that they will likely already own so that they don’t have to go out and buy a new pair. If you really want them to wear the same shoes then pick an eco-friendly variety.

  • Pick green bridesmaids gifts. When you're honoring your bridesmaids, honor the planet as well with some green bridesmaids gifts. Give them a stunning recycled glass vase or some masterfully produced handmade jewelry from the farmers' market. Watch how you wrap the gifts as well so that your maids don’t end up throwing away tons of discarded wrapping paper.
