We live in a society where everything we buy has a way-too-specific function. We have packaged air that is supposed to clean our keyboards. We have guns that launch T-shirts. We have cleansers for counter tops and cleansers for counter bottoms and cleaners for counter sides. Somehow we started believing that we needed all this stuff we don’t. We can downsize our life by using one thing to do many things.

Vinegar, for example, can do hundreds of things. We don't need to buy 14 different counter cleaners when vinegar can take care of all parts of the counter. We can conserve waste and save money by using one product to do many things. Shaving cream is just one of those things we really don't need. Sorry, shaving cream. Nothing personal. There are just so many other things that function just as well and can be used for other things.

  1. Olive oil
You can use olive oil to clean. You can cook with it, and you can shave with it.

  2. DIY Lotion
You can shave with lotion. Better yet, make your own lotion and shave with it.

  3. Soap
Soap is a household staple and part of proper hygiene. It often functions much better than shaving cream. Use vegetable-based soap for an eco-friendlier shave.

  4. Shampoo
Another household staple that can help wipe away your beard. Again, use an eco-friendly shampoo.

  5. Dishwashing liquid
Save money by shaving with your eco-friendly dishwashing liquid. It's much cheaper than shaving cream.
