Gossip Girl is more than a TV show. These days, Gossip Girl, in whole, is a fashion trendsetter. The girls on this show have become better known for their edgy getups than their drama. (Amen to that! I don't need to hear about how hard the lives of rich girls are anymore than I already do.) But the girls of Gossip Girl wear expensive clothes that I can't afford. And I don't even want to afford them. Especially if I don't have to.
Abigail Lorick is the designer for the show. During New York's fashion week, she debuted her line in Hell's Kitchen and I have to say, I liked a lot of her pieces. I didn't just like the pieces for their fashion aesthetic. I liked them for their accessibility.
This particular look featured above is simple and tasteful. And you can make it yourself. Take a careful look at this outfit. You don't need anything other than a high-waisted skirt, belt, and piece of fabric to make it yourself. And it doesn't even require sewing.
- Find a few feet of fabric that goes well with a high-waisted skirt you have. You'll probably need at least four feet. Scrap fabric is perfect for this, but hey, an old curtain might work just as well.
- Put your skirt on.
- Hang the fabric around your neck like a scarf.
- Pull the right side down farther than the left.
- Tuck what is hanging on the left side into the skirt.
- Buckle a belt around your waist, with the right side still hanging.
