Sophie Uliano, author of Gorgeously Green, is the definition of eco-chic. She takes great pains to ensure that when she gets ready every morning that she does so in an ecologically responsible manner. The next time you're primping for an event or simply getting ready for a big day at work, green your morning ritual with a few worthwhile changes:
- Wash with all natural organic soap like Stem Organics, a marvelous company started by Lara Deutsch and Michael Cristoffel. Deutsch, who suffers from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, turned to holistic therapies when Western medicine seemed unable to alleviate her health issues. After years of researching the benefits of natural and organic ingredients, Deutsch and Cristoffel have employed that approach in the creation of their wonderful all-natural soaps.
- Take showers instead of baths. An average bath requires 30 to 50 gallons of water. The average four minute shower with an old shower head (built before 1992) uses 20 gallons of water. With a low-flow shower head, a four-minute shower only uses 10 gallons of water.
- Use organic makeup from companies like The Organic Makeup Company. Your skin is a barrier, but it's not impermeable. Using all-organic, pesticide free makeup is critical to your well-being. Switch to makeup that's eco- and animal-friendly, nontoxic, organic, and free of chemicals like phthalates. Phthalates are a group of chemicals used in makeup that are not only harmful to you, but really hard on our eco-system.
