One of the ecological benefits of living in Los Angeles is not having to use air conditioning or central heating. The temperature does tend to drop a bit in the winter, enough so that I bought a space heater to help me get through these frigid evenings and mornings. The space heater makes my skin all dry and scratchy. I've found an all-natural solution to my ticklish problem: Coconut oil.

Coconut oil is great for hair, but it can be a real boon for the skin. It's also a boon for the planet. It's made of all-natural, organic material. The purer the coconut the better it is. There is no need to mix harsh, toxic chemicals with coconut oil. It is completely safe, unless you are allergic to coconuts. You even purchase coconut oil in a glass jar and reuse the jar as a cup. Coconut oil is edible. Don't worry about drinking from that jar. Other moisturizers may come in plastic tubes or be mixed with questionable chemicals.

Scientists in the Philippines did a study on coconut oil's ability to combat dry skin. They found that coconut oil reduced dryness, roughness and scaling. Kiss your dry skin goodbye with coconut oil.
