How and Where to Donate Your Old Blue Jeans

Sometimes, as much as you try to wear what you already have, you just really need/want a nice new pair of blue jeans. But what to do with the old pair? Though I came across plenty of great ideas, what I really wanted to do was make a scarf out of blue jeans.

Sound insane? Not to me. But my sister, who knows fashion, convinced me it was a bad idea, and maybe she had a point. Why not just give them to people who can do something good with them? Remembering the denim drive Boise and Angela coordinated on Alter Eco, I decided to get in touch with Cotton Inc. and find out what the company had in the works.

According to Felicia Eugene at Cotton, the company will continue its FROM BLUE TO GREEN® denim drive in six as-yet-unnamed universities across the country this fall. Information should be available soon about the best place near you to drop off your denim.

And if you're not near any of those schools, it turns out non-profit fair-trade Fair Indigo plans on providing a mail-in address this month, just in time for people to send in their old denim, so keep an eye out. The address should be available in both their catalogs and on their site.

Are you a green hipster looking for all things green and cool? Then you'll love actor and eco-activist Adrian Grenier and his team of environmental experts, who live it up with sustainable style on Planet Green TV's Alter Eco.
