Hold up! Those tin cans you're getting ready to recycle may just be your next great bracelet. I'm a fan of bangles. They can be dressed up or down and can be made straight from would-have-been waste.
Lucky for us all, these bangles can easily be made from tin cans. That's right. The same cans that your beans come in can be reused and reformatted into cute bracelets. And it's easy, too.
Here's what you need:
Tin Snips
A tin or aluminum can
A hammer
Thick fabric (Think about that old sweater you never wear anymore)
Glue
- Here's what you do:
- Peel off the label from your can.
- Clean your can out thoroughly. (Seriously. Thoroughly.)
- Use tin snips to cut down the height of the can to the bottom.
- Use the snips to cut through the bottom of the can.
- On a flat surface, hammer out the can into a sheet of metal.
- Decide on the width of your bracelet. Snip along the width of the can to match your ideal bracelet size.
- Bend the piece of metal around your wrist so that it fits perfectly. (Be careful with the sharp edges!)
- Cut your fabric into long and thin pieces.
- Wrap the pieces of fabric around to achieve the thickness you want and also blunt the sharp edges.
- Use glue to fasten the fabric down at its ends.
- Repeat until you have all of the bangles your heart desires!
Note: It's incredibly helpful to wear gloves and goggles during this process.
Enjoy!
