Make Katamari Damacy Earmuffs

Sending crafts to Earth.

Wed Jan 07 10:30:00 GMT 2009

Remember Katamari Damacy It’s a video game where you roll various things into a giant ball. For example, you might start pushing around a ball made of paperclips and pencils, and before you know it, you are picking up cars, people and buildings and heaving them about in a Sisyphusean manner. It’s probably the weirdest game in the world, and, somehow, strangely addictive and satisfying.

I was surfing the net, looking for a way to make DIY earmuffs. I found a video where a lady named Emma was hot-gluing teddy bears to a headband. It was a neat idea, but it didn’t look too practical. The bears are on the outside of the band, not snug against the ear.

Surprisingly, one of the most common DIY earmuff suggestion was Katamari Damacy earmuffs.  Several blogs touted this design and Thrifty Knitter even improved on the design by adding a hidden compartment. The design originates from a magazine called Shojo Beat, a publication about Manga and Japanese culture. Shojo Beat has two different Katamari Damacy earmuff designs: The Queen of all Cosmos design and the Prince of all Cosmos Design. The earmuffs look fairly snug and comfortable. They’d probably keep you warm during these cold, winter days. Some people may think they look a little goofy, but to me, goofy is cool. Making your own clothes  is a great way to help the environment. Yarn and needles have to be manufactured as does regular clothing, but making something yourself cuts down on the amount of time the materials spend in the supply chain.
