A lot of us have heard by now that hairspray is not exactly good for our environment-but do we know why? It's important that we actually understand that negative effects hair spray has on our planet before we can effectively do something about this.

The first problem that we face with hair spray is the fact that there are VOC's in hairspray. The spray is also flammable and has long acted alternatively as an inhalant. The pump hair spray is definitely better than the aerosol hair spray. Aerosol hair spray is appearing less and less on store shelves these days because of the dangers that it poses, but in the meantime, keep in mind that both the pump and the aerosol sprays are recyclable. Also keep in mind that you should always use this entire product before disposing of it in any way.

Are you still weary about using hair spray? Well, I don't blame you. A great option that you have is making your own hair spray. Making hair spray is cheap and easy. Here is just one of many recipes, for example:

Place a sliced lemon into two cups of boiling water. Cool this and leave it in the refrigerator. Add one ounce of rubbing alcohol and you can store this outside of the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Making your own hair spray is a great way for you to ensure that you aren't exposing yourself or the planet to unnecessary toxins for the sake of your hair.
