The Look:
- Taylor Swift Hits the Right Note (Slide 1)
Teen stars don't always find the right balance on the red carpet; designers just seem to have trouble coming up with styles that aren't too frumpy, too revealing, or too prom. Taylor Swift—who usually defaults to dresses with tons of sparkle—tames her look at the 2009 Grammys in this black Kaufman Franco dress, paired with dramatic earrings, a loose updo, and plenty of mascara. It's glamorous without being fussy—and perfect for any 19-year-old. - Dierdre Dress (Slide 2)
Copy Swift's plunging neckline in the Deirdre dress, a floor-length gown made of 100% organic combed cotton with an empire waist that mimics the patent-leather bands on Swift's version. (Faeries Dance, $129) - Vintage earrings (Slide 3)
Like Swift, add sparkle with bold drop earrings that set off loosely-pinned curls and the dress's deep v-neck. (Eclectica, $75) - NVEY organic mascara
This look works in part because she's not overly made-up—why hide that 19-year-old skin? Use sheer colors on face and lips, but make sure eyes pop with plenty of dark mascara. (Nimli, $24)
