Clothes Swap

No matter how many episodes of Hollywood Green we see where celebrities are teaching us about new green clothing lines, I can't help but emphasize the fact that used clothing is the greenest clothing out there. On top of that, it's often times the most unique, as well. One way that I love to get rid of the clothes I no longer want (and gain some that I do) is by throwing a clothing swap party. This might sound dorky, but trust me, these parties can be amazing if you throw them the right way. So here are some tips on how to throw the parties so that recycling-or freecycling-clothing is a fun event for all of your friends.

  • Drinks! Drinks are fun, whether alcoholic or not. From smoothies to margaritas, tasty beverages always make a person smile. Challenge yourself to make drinks with organic fruits!
  • Food. Drinks are great, but food is just as great. The last time that I had a clothing swap party, I made a huge pan of nachos. It was perfect! But pick whatever food you prefer that can easily be passed around to your friends.
  • Music. Models try on their clothes during photo shoots while fun music is playing. You should do the same! Make a mix for the party to play while everyone goes through the clothes.

Now those are just the things you can do to set the mood right. Once you start the actual clothing swap party of the party, here's what you want to do:

Have everyone bring the clothes they no longer want to the party. Pile everything in the middle of the room. The owner of each pile should hold up each piece of clothing. Everyone else gets to look at it and the people who want the clothing should raise their hands. If there is only one hand raised, that person gets the clothing item. If there's more than one hand raised, play a trivia game to settle out who gets the clothing. Combining all of the mood settings above with the game makes for an awesome night. Plus, everyone saves money and helps the environment. It's a win-win situation!
