Halloween only comes once a year and, as such, can create a buy it, use it one-time, dispose it attitude. Instead, this year, make your own cheaper, better Halloween...Mask.

Halloween masks are popular...and really, I think that is an understatement. When you're talking about a holiday that bases itself in all that is scary and spooky, of course masks are going to be a hit! Most Halloween masks are made to reflect popular characters or the faces of traditionally creepy folks...like vampires, monsters, etc.

This Halloween, I urge you not buy a mask. I urge you to paper mache your own mask instead.

Here's how you can paper mache your own mask this Halloween:

Decide on your mask. What will it be? You should have a clear vision of what it will be before you get started. I'm thinking about crafting a unicorn mask myself this year.

Gather your paper first. Use recycled paper or reuse paper around the house you no longer need (ie, computer paper that printed incorrectly or newspaper are perfect).

Make your paste. The paste is easy to make, really. Cook one part flour to 5 parts water. Boil this until it's smooth.

By ripping or cutting your paper into small pieces, begin to mold the mask you want. Molding around a sturdy object, like half of a plastic milk jug, for example, make it all much easier. Add four layers at first and then let the mask completely dry. Add another four layers once it is dried. If you're confident with your design at this point, begin to paint it to your liking after it is completely dry.

This is a fun project that will help out your wallet and the environment.
