New York's fashion week brought an array of bold designs to the table for fashion-lovers everywhere, but there's one new trend I just can't get down with. Sub-Saharan African designs are in right now. John Galliano's models trickled down runways during fashion week flaunting 'ethnic' hairdos. Marc Jacobs's show paid tribute to the beads and bangles of African tribes and the African motif didn't stop there. From grass-skirt knock-offs to zebra prints, designers made it clear that Africa is the new black. If you take fashion hints from the industry and want to embrace this new trend, please do it the eco-way.

Why buy brand new clothes for this look if you can achieve it more sustainably?

Here is an easy way to wear these bold and in-vogue African styles without buying new clothes:

Take advantage of thrift stores.
2009 isn't the first year that African-inspired trends have been hot. In fact, these trends seem to surface every few years from all I can tell. I guarantee that looking through your local thrift store for bold sub-Saharan designs will prove to be fruitful. You'll get the look you're going for while being green.
