28 Recipes to Get You Through February

By Kelly Rossiter IN Food & Health Feb 1 2011

February is the hardest month for me in terms of cooking and eating. I live in Toronto, so the possibility of local fresh vegetables is pretty limited. At this time of the year, my husband and I eat a lot of cabbage, JerusalemIn other words, lots of root vegetables with the occasional green. artichokes, carrots, potatoes and celeriac. + READ MORE

Veggie Chips

By Emma Alter IN Food & Health Jun 19 2009

Though Sara wrote about making potato chips a few weeks ago, I'm going to give you another way of making chips, and one with a slight variation: vegetable chips! Veggie chips are great because you get more than just potatoes: any solid vegetable can be made into a chip! I made it with beets, zucchini, turnip, and carrot, and sweet potato (and a regular potato, just to be sneaky!) but you could use anything: parsnips, pepper, and anything else that can be sliced on a mandolin. I stared longingly at my cauliflower (my absolute favourite vegetable), but somehow I thought it might not work as well. There are a lot of summer vegetables that work very well with this recipe, but it would also be great in the doldrums of winter when all you have to eat is parsnip: hey, why not fry it? + READ MORE

My mom always says that the party is always in the kitchen and when you're making crepes, it definitely is. Crepes are best served immediately out of the pan—when I make them, my housemates stand around the kitchen chatting, waiting for a hot, sugary pancake to fall into their hands. + READ MORE

Make Your Own Pocky for a Saturday Snack

By Kelly Rossiter IN Food & Health Dec 23 2008

I don't really get it, but my kids both love the Japanese snack Pocky. There is a grocery/dry goods store in Toronto that sells only Japanese stuff. A giant Hello, Kitty is painted on the outside brick wall. When you go into the store you behold a truly astonishing array of flavours of Pocky. + READ MORE

Make Your Own Tortilla Chips

By Kelly Rossiter IN Food & Health Nov 26 2008

Everyone is talking about hard economic times and we at Planet Green have been getting recession ready for many months. My daughter that suggested tortilla chips were something she would like to learn how to make, so I asked Rebecca Vandevelde, who has worked in Mexican restaurants, for some help. She sent me instructions that were so well thought out and articulated, that I'm just going to turn the rest of the post over to her. + READ MORE
